History of the Shrine
Nakaraja Shrine Thailand is a long-history shrine that was built from the belief and faith of people in Tambon Chan Sen. It was found by “A Kong” who was an ancestor of Chinese people in Chan Sen. A Kong believed that “Chao Por Nakaraja” who governs over the buried treasures resides in the shrine. So, “Nakaraja Shrine” was built at this place. The shrine has been the local people’s spiritual anchor for more than 4 generations. At first, the shrine was only a small shed with zinc roofing and was visited only by the local people.
Later on, the shrine was renovated due to the increased popularity in nearby communities and expanded to accommodate visiting people who come to pay respect at Nakaraja Shrine.
As time passed, the shrine’s condition declined so it was renovated again by “Ajarn Haew” who is the fourth-generation descendant of A Kong. Ajarn Haew had a vision where a 1,000-year-old Chinese man told him to build a shrine in the same place. So, Ajarn Haew renovated the shrine in 8 months with a budget of only 3,000 baht. He also invited “Mister Bunchop Utha-Yophat” who is a famous figure in this circle to help with the renovation in accordance with the Chines belief for auspiciousness. Therefore, Nakaraja Shrine has become a residence of various deities and idols, for example, Guan Yin, Yu Loi, Guan Yu, Nezha, Cai Shen, The Eighteen Arhats, Phra Kasiti Khappha Phothisat, etc.
After that, the shrine has been expanded continuously. During the construction, many believers donated necessary items for the project such as bricks, stones, cement, sand, steel, or tiles. So, Nakaraja Shrine has become a magnificent Chinese-Buddhist religious destination large enough to accommodate believers visiting from everywhere.
Every year on 8-10 December, the believers will visit the shrine, especially on the 10th December because it is the day when Chao Por Nakaraja will come to the earth through “Ajarn Haew” as a medium who can communicate with the deities. The event takes place once a year only.
